Victories for Legions Thai-Boxing Club's fighters
Written by Tony Kelly, Deputy Sports Editor    Tuesday, 28 June 2011 16:00

WAITING to move to a new base, fighters from the Legions Thai-Boxing Club in Acomb wasted no time in a big bill at Sheffield.

Out of the four on duty, three gained impressive victories to the delight of chief coach David Phillips.

Dean Croft, who also trains out of the Multi Masters Academy gym in Layerthorpe, got the Legion crew off to a flying start with a points win in the K1 class.

Ian Houillebecq followed suit with victory to put him in fine shape for his Thai-boxing regional title challenge on the Cage Confrontation 3 bill at York’s Energise Centre next month, while John Brough capped his competitive combat debut with a win.

The only blemish was an harsh points defeat for Al Chambers, also in the K1 class, though he and his opponent were named as the fight of the night.

Said Phillips, who is due to lead the club to a new headquarters in Tang Hall later this month: “It was a great showing by the lads. To have three wins out of four is an excellent achievement.”

The Cage Confrontation 3 bill is being staged at the Energise complex in Oaklands Road on Saturday, July 16.

Anyone wanting tickets for the third cage-fighting show to be staged in the city can phone co-promoters Gaz Watkinson on 07798 765259 or Tony Dias on 07956 612667.
